Church Planter in Lithuania

Lithuania

The Position

We are looking for a godly man or family who are willing to offer their lives to serve, build up, and expand the church of Lithuania. We are looking for someone who is servant hearted, theologically grounded, church ordained, and elder qualified according to the standards of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. This position would involve working closely with local pastors to build up the small churches already present, and to plant new congregations in the many areas currently with no access to an evangelical church. There is nothing established in this region, so many opportunities exist to serve. This could include such things as planning and participating in outreaches, English camps, encouraging pastors, youth ministry, prison ministry, or filling in at churches currently without pastors.

The Need

When Lithuania regained full independence in 1991, Catholicism reemerged as the dominant religion, alongside a small number of faithful evangelical Christians. In the years that followed, American missionaries came to Lithuania, engaging in evangelism and church planting efforts. Today, most missionaries of that generation have retired, and only a handful of others have stepped in to take their place.

Most Lithuanian pastors must work full time to support their families and are only able to do ministry on the side. As the younger generation has grown up, most have become interested in pursuing the things of this world rather than the things of God. There are few young men who are willing to take up the mantle of church leadership. Most Lithuanians are Catholic in name only and have no idea of the true gospel of Jesus Christ. The Lithuanian church needs people who are servant hearted to help lift the burden of these faithful men of God and pastors and come alongside them to help carry the good news of Jesus into areas of the country which are still left without a true witness.

The Impact

Our prayer is that God will raise up missionaries who are willing to go, learn the language and culture, and commit to long term service in Lithuania. We pray that He will send men and families who are willing to be servants to the Lithuanian church, to help them in their desire to grow in godliness and reach out to their neighbors with the hope of Jesus Christ. We pray that the gospel will spread in Lithuania and that every man, woman and child will hear the good news of Jesus Christ. We pray that Lithuania will be reached with the gospel and that on that day when the saints are gathered to worship around our Savior’s glorious throne, the Lithuanian tongue will ring out loud and clear.
