Urgent Prayer Need

Pray for Colombia

On August 10, a 7.4M earthquake struck western Colombia, killing hundreds and displacing families across Cali and Pereira. Join us in praying for our brothers and sisters there.

What Happened

The magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck near San José del Palmar in Chocó department, with severe impact felt in Cali, Pereira, and surrounding areas. No ABWE missionaries were directly affected, but two of our partner churches were hit hard — one in Cali, where many church families lost their homes, and one in Pereira, where the building was damaged so badly the congregation can no longer meet there.

We’re partnering with our national partner mission in Colombia to get help directly to the local pastors leading the response in both cities.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.

Psalm 46:1-2 ESV

How to Pray

  1. Strength and wisdom for the local pastors as they care for their congregations in the midst of loss.
  2. Provision for displaced families to find shelter, food, and the means to rebuild.
  3. Safety for local believers traveling into hard-hit areas like Chocó to bring relief.
  4. Gospel opportunity — that this moment of compassion would open hearts to the hope of Christ in these communities.
  5. Coordination for our partners as they work together to get help where it’s needed most.
