The Spiritual Need in Malawi
Malawi is considered one of the poorest countries in Africa. Of the country’s 22 million inhabitants, over 70 percent lives below the poverty line of $2.15 per day and over 80 percent in rural areas. However, the economic poverty pales in importance to the spiritual poverty in this nation. Although most Malawians claim to be Christian, almost all Malawian churches preach a false prosperity “gospel” or adhere to cultic and syncretistic beliefs that incorporate tribal religions. Sadly, Malawian spiritual leaders are more likely to prey on the people for their own material gain rather than teach them God’s Word and serve them in a biblical, Christ-honoring manner.
In this spiritual darkness God is using a small network of Bible-believing churches to preach the true gospel and shepherd the people of God. These churches also strive to train a new generation of theologically sound pastors who will understand, live out and effectively communicate God’s Word. Malawi is a new field for ABWE and is open for like-minded missionaries to come partner with this network of Baptist churches as they spread the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Malawi.
Church Planting/Strengthening in Malawi
The number of churches teaching the true gospel in this country is extremely small. This creates a great opportunity to partner with the existing network of Malawian Baptist churches by planting more theologically sound local churches, especially in areas outside the large cities of Lilongwe and Blantyre. Missionaries skilled in other ministry areas are also needed as ABWE opens this mission field.
Will you come support Christ’s church in “The Warm Heart of Africa” and proclaim the life-changing message of the gospel as you demonstrate Christ’s love in action?
