The Position
We are looking for the person who understands the value of Scriptures and discipleship materials in the heart language of the people we serve, someone who clings to His promise, “My Word will not return to me void.” Providing needed literature in French and some tribal languages equips the local churches for preaching, teaching and discipleship.
This role could be part-time or full-time and will involve working with trained national printers (in our print shop) and translation/bookstore workers to distribute and sometimes create materials that are relevant to their needs (family, finances, youth, sermon preparation, SS curriculum, etc.) The Manager could spend 4-8 hours at the Christian Materials Center located on the hospital compound at Tsiko and would oversee printing, purchasing, selling, and translation; and handle accounting and payroll, We have a growing audio-visual ministry located next door which allows broadcast into the hospital, another future opportunity for use of materials we collect and produce.
Qualifications include good organization skills, ability to interact with CMC staff, at least rudimentary bookkeeping skills, willingness to communicate funding needs for special projects, and desire to find and make available excellent resources for equipping our pastors and local churches.
The Need
Togo is unique in that, being quite small, it houses 43 people groups, each with its own language. With French as the national language taught in school, those who are unschooled may speak and understand only their mother tongue. The need for excellent resources in French to equip pastors, teachers and church members is great; our literature reaches out into Benin (French) and Ghana (Ewe) as well as being distributed throughout Togo. While the general population of Togo is very open to the Gospel, many are unable to use materials in French. We are working hard to provide evangelism and discipleship materials to those unreached groups through both printed and audio-visual materials.
Because the people of Togo do not have access to constant internet (and in some areas no access), providing resources that do not require internet access is vital. We have found effective means of reaching those folks through tracts, lessons, Bibles, books and micro SD cards loaded with the Jesus video, Scriptures in multiple languages, various Christian videos, and kids’ music for use in Sunday School.
Our hospitals in the south and north regions of the country open doors to sharing the Gospel. We must provide materials that speak to the hearts of the people God brings our way.
The Impact
The Christian Materials Center, with print shop, bookstore and translation center, is the primary source of materials in French and some tribal languages for our missionary work throughout Togo (and into Benin and Ghana as well). We provide materials noted above (Bibles, tracts, lessons, books, micro SD cards, films, etc.) for not only our missionary colleagues in the south and north regions but also for local churches (pastors, teachers and lay persons).
We also support our hospital by printing their forms/charts and we have, in the past, printed school books for local Christian schools supported by our local churches.
One of our missions at the CMC is to research, find, acquire at competitive prices and have shipped in excellent resources for use by our missionary team and churches. Often requests for materials on specific topics are brought to the CMC and we do our best to find and provide what’s needed.
