The Position
Serve the Lord by shepherding a young international church plant in one of Europe’s most historically complex and spiritually challenging cities. Your ministry will include:
• Preaching and teaching the Bible with clarity, conviction, and pastoral sensitivity. Formal theological training and prior pastoral ministry experience is highly preferred.
• Spiritually overseeing a diverse and often transient international congregation made up of refugees, expatriates, students, and long-term residents.
• Equipping and encouraging members to live out their faith within a secular culture.
• Overseeing and developing church leaders and volunteers, with a multiplication mindset of seeing new ethnically diverse churches planted in Berlin.
• Networking with pastors and ministries to help establish and strengthen the church’s local and global impact.
• Demonstrating patience, perseverance, and faith in leading the church toward maturity.
• While the congregation worships in English, a willingness to learn German and engage with local culture is encouraged as part of long-term ministry and community presence.
The Need
Berlin—particularly the former east side—is one of Europe’s most secular regions, with evangelical believers comprising around 1% of the population. Decades of atheistic ideology under communism, combined with modern skepticism, have left most people with limited Bible knowledge and little openness to Christianity. Gospel-grounded churches are extremely few, and Christ-like pastoral leadership is greatly needed. At the same time, Berlin is an international city, drawing people from around the world due to work, study, creative pursuits, and also tragedies like war and displacement. Since Berlin is a temporary place of residence for many, an English-speaking congregation rooted in Scripture and united in Christ has a unique opportunity to reach diverse people groups who are in a position to scatter gospel seeds throughout the ends of the earth.
