Registered Nurse

Togo

The Position

We have an urgent need for Registered Nurses (RN) to serve in the nursing department at the Hospital of Hope.

The nursing department currently has a staff of 45 nurses and 30 nurse aides, most of whom are Togolese, but we need more help as the hospital continues to grow! As nurses, we provide direct bedside care to patients admitted to the hospital. The patients range in age from preemies to geriatric patients and are a mix of medical and surgical patients. As an RN, you are uniquely situated to use your nursing skills to provide hands-on, compassionate nursing care, thereby showing them God’s love, and opening doors for gospel conversations. Opportunities exist for short-term (6 weeks to 1 year), mid-term (1-3 years), and long-term service (4+ years). Depending on the length of time you are serving at HoH, opportunities abound to get involved in a variety of other local ministries in your off time.

Requirements:

Minimum 1 year nursing experience

Minimum 6-week service commitment

Active RN license

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

The Need

Togo is located in West Africa, a geographic area characterized by poor quality of life and little access to the gospel. Muslims are the fastest growing religious group in the country and nearly one-in-three Togolese practice some form of animism. The country has seen little evangelical outreach and maintains one of the highest percentages of un-evangelized local religions in all of Africa.

The Hospital of Hope (HoH) is located in the far northern region of Togo, with many unreached people groups in the local vicinity. We exist to bring hope and healing to the people of West Africa.

Opened in March 2015, the Hospital of Hope is a 65-bed major medical, surgical and acute care facility, and regional trauma center. In addition to intensive care (basic capabilities), the hospital contains pediatrics, obstetrics, surgical, and medical units. There are 4 operating rooms, surgical recovery area (PACU), and onsite laboratory, radiology and pharmacy. In 2024, HoH staff members provided care to over 10,000 hospitalized patients, performed 1,747 surgical cases, delivered 1,475 babies, and completed more than 40,000 clinic visits. Most of these patients are Togolese, but others come from Ghana, Burkina Faso, Benin, Niger, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.

The Impact

God has used the Hospital of Hope to begin an awakening to the gospel among the people in this region. Now known as “the hospital that prays,” many who had never heard of Jesus are being exposed to the gospel because of care received at the hospital. Bible study groups have sprung up in a number of local villages, and individuals are becoming followers of Jesus. Providing nursing care at HoH is a tangible way to demonstrate God’s sacrificial love to a hurting world and opens doors for gospel conversations.
