The Position
Serve and meet a critical need as a short-term nurse at our partner hospital in South Asia. During your time at our hospital, you will be working directly with other nurses and doctors. Foreign nurses serve in leadership and training roles, while most of the direct patient care is provided by national nursing staff. We are looking for nurses with at least 2 years of clinical experience who are flexible, have a servant’s heart, and love to learn. We are excited about having more nurses come and work within our facility and build relationships with team members and nationals.
Minimum of 2 years experience.
The Need
Our partner, Memorial Christian Hospital (MCH) has been operating since 1966, and today this hospital serves a patient population of over 10 million. MCH sees an average of 40,000 outpatients every year with diseases typical in any outpatient department in North America such as diabetes, hypertension, colds, sore throats and rashes. But, we also see diseases particular to developing countries; TB, typhoid, parasites, diarrheal diseases, and malnutrition. Among these patients are those with traumatic injuries, burns, cancers, malformations, and many diagnostic conundrums. In this predominantly Muslim nation, our outpatient department is often our patients’ first contact with Christianity.
MCH currently has specialties in obstetrics, general surgery, orthopedics, and family medicine. The breadth of these specialties is vast and includes just about any patient that walks through the door. Each year we perform close to 2,000 surgeries, deliver 1,500 babies and do about 500 C-sections. On average there are about 4,000 patients a year admitted to the hospital. The hospital also has robust pharmacy, laboratory, x-ray, and physical therapy departments. Our Limb and Brace center is one of the few places in the country making custom made artificial limbs and braces.
The Impact
Jesus healed the sick and preached the Gospel. Compassionate health care opens doors to a person’s personal and spiritual condition. Daily opportunities abound to share the hope of Christ – will you be a part of it? We are praying earnestly to the Lord of the Harvest to send more laborers here.
Numerous ministries stem from the hospital, and many of our doctors and nurses are working within these as well. We would love to have short-term nurses come alongside and relieve some of our personnel to work to capacity within the hospital and ministries.
