Adult MK Service Requirements
Thank you for working with us as we uphold our commitment to protect children and create safe communities where our staff, missionaries, volunteers and partners minister and live.
As part of our efforts, your adult-MK may need to complete a background check and ABWE’s child safety and security trainings. Please refer to the Policy for Background Checks and Online Safety & Security Training document on Central for all the details.
Quick Facts: What Does My Child Need?
My child is between 18-26 years old, single, and will be participating in ministry when they come to visit us on the field. What will they need?
- A background check
- Child safety training*
- Security training
*There are no training requirements for those who are NOT participating in ministry.
My child is between 18-26 years old, single, and will be living in my home. What will they need?
Because ministry might be occurring in the home, they will need:
- A background check
- Child safety training
- Security training
My child is 18 years or older, not living in my home, but will participating in a ministry (ABWE or otherwise). What will they need?
Contact the specific ministry to learn about their requirements, and how to adhere to any applicable local laws.
My adult child is married and will be living with or visiting us on the field. What will they need?
My adult child is older than 26 and will be living with or visiting us on the field. What will they need?
Cost
Trainings and background checks are valid for five years and allow for full participation in any ABWE-ministry activities during that time.

- Child Safety Training | $15
Payments can be made through the ABWE payment portal or be charged to your ministry account.
Next Steps
If you have one or more children who need to fulfill these requirements, contact your region’s administrative assistant. They will take care of enrolling each adult child in the trainings and facilitate background checks, as needed.
