The Position
God has recently enabled ABWE missionaries to plant an evangelical church in the Balkans. That church seeks additional planters to continue to evangelize the Muslim-majority population, disciple new believers, plan outreach events, and serve the local church in a variety of roles to include preaching, teaching, and/or possibly administration. In support of the local ministry, the new church planter will labor side-by-side with current team members in harmony with the mission, values, and priorities of the church.
The Need
There is a great need for church planters in the Balkans. The culture is primarily Muslim, although there are also Catholic and Orthodox citizens. This diverse culture has led to significant disruptions, including civil wars, and yielded an atmosphere of distrust. As part of the former Yugoslavia, the beautiful region is rich in a wide variety of resources and history. A church planter in the Balkans must be prepared to recognize the beliefs of the mostly Muslim population while continuing to share the truth of Christ’s love with those who are willing to listen. Sensitivity and prayerful strategy in response to historical events, local culture and circumstances are key to meeting the spiritual needs of this population.
The Impact
New believers in this area have little to no contextual understanding of biblical Christianity (less than 2% of the population is reached). Given the cultural flux of the region and new believers’ thirst for authentic, biblical knowledge, the church planter has the potential for significant individual impact.
As a missionary and church planter, you’ll make an eternal difference in the lives of the people in the Balkans. Learn more about ABWE today.
