The Need
The northwestern region of Uganda faces severe educational challenges that limit the future of its youth and adults:
- Low Pass Rates: Primary and secondary students in this region suffer from historically low exam pass rates.
- Interrupted Education: Financial hardship prevents parents from paying school fees, causing major learning gaps.
- Language Barriers: All formal education and commerce rely on English to unite Uganda’s 56 distinct tribes.
- Economic Stagnation: Adults lack the English proficiency required to improve their socioeconomic status or pursue higher degrees.
The Impact
By stepping into this role, you provide tools for lifelong spiritual and socioeconomic flourishing:
- Critical Thinking: You give community members the foundational reading and math skills necessary for regional development.
- Spiritual Growth: Literacy enables believers to read the Word of God and study theological literature independently.
- Gospel Access: Local Muslims and church leaders are eager to learn English and are open to using Christian literature when learning English, creating natural bridges for faith conversations. Learning English more proficiently opens up opportunities for church leaders to use English biblical resources.
