The Position

There are many Japanese of all ages who desire to begin learning or increase their fluency in English. Most of the current church plants in Japan would benefit from having an ESL teacher available to reach out into the community. The ideal candidate would be a disciple-maker able to teach English to all ages as well as lead bible studies with students as they developed an interest in the Gospel.

The Need

Many Japanese people have never met a Christian, seen a Bible, and do not know about Jesus. In fact, just three percent of the Kanto region’s 43 million people claim to be Christians.

We are looking for teammates with creative ideas and deep relationship-building skills to join us in the task of building Christ-centered redemptive relationships. ABWE is growing the team in the Kanto region and is seeking missionaries equipped for church planting, ministry to the deaf community, and teaching English as a second language. These valuable skills build bridges into Japan’s communities. Will you press on toward that goal with us?

The Impact

English is often an open door to a different way of thinking. It is expected that native English speakers will teach about their home culture as well as the intricacies of English. Easter, Christmas, and even normal Sundays provide an opportunity to share the truth of God’s Word in a friendly context. The hole that many people are trying to fill with English and hobbies is often the space that Jesus steps into and changes life for eternity. Although it is a joy to see someone improve their English, it can’t compare to the Joy of welcoming a new believer into the family of God!
