The Position
We are seeking dedicated ESL teachers to serve in Ukraine, helping to meet the growing demand for English education. These individuals will teach English to university students, young professionals, and others eager to improve their language skills. Teaching may take place in universities, schools, churches, and community centers through structured courses, conversation clubs, and informal gatherings.
This role is more than just teaching English—it is about building relationships and creating opportunities to share the hope of the gospel. A typical day may involve preparing and leading engaging lessons, hosting discussion groups, and connecting with students over coffee to practice conversational English. Ideal candidates should have experience in ESL instruction, a passion for cross-cultural ministry, and a heart for discipleship. A TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA certification is preferred but not required. More importantly, we are looking for someone who is flexible, relational, and committed to using their skills to further God’s kingdom in Ukraine.
The Need
Ukraine is experiencing a significant shift toward the West, making English language proficiency more important than ever. Many Ukrainians see English as a key to better job opportunities, international communication, and educational advancement. As a result, English teachers are in high demand, and learning English has become a priority for students and professionals alike.
However, beyond practical benefits, language learning opens doors for meaningful relationships. Many Ukrainians, especially young people, are eager to engage with native or fluent English speakers. They are looking not only for teachers but also for mentors and friends who can invest in their lives. By stepping into this role, ESL teachers can meet a pressing societal need while also forming deep, lasting connections with people who may otherwise have little exposure to the gospel.
The Impact
ESL ministry is a powerful tool for outreach in Ukraine. Churches, schools, and universities welcome English language programs, providing a natural way to engage with students who might not otherwise step into a church. Through language classes and conversation clubs, ESL teachers can establish trust, develop friendships, and introduce students to Christ-centered conversations.
The impact goes beyond the classroom. As teachers invest in the lives of their students, they have countless opportunities to demonstrate the love of Christ and share the hope of the gospel. Many Ukrainians are searching for meaning, and an ESL teacher who genuinely cares can point them toward the ultimate truth found in Jesus. This ministry aligns directly with the Great Commission, equipping believers to make disciples through the everyday interactions of teaching, mentoring, and relationship-building.
