The Position:
ABWE Team Ecuador is seeking dedicated ESL teachers to build relationships for the purpose of sharing the hope of the gospel. Ideal candidates should have experience in ESL instruction, a passion for cross-cultural ministry, and a heart for evangelism and discipleship. A typical day may involve preparing and leading engaging lessons, hosting discussion groups, and connecting with students over coffee to practice conversational English. A TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA certification is preferred but not required. Most importantly, we are seeking relational candidates who are committed to using their skills to further God’s kingdom.
The Need:
Many Ecuadorians see English as a key to educational advancement, better job opportunities, and international communication. English teachers are in high demand, and learning English has become a priority for students and professionals alike. Many Ecuadorians are eager to engage with native or fluent English speakers. They are looking for mentors and friends who can invest in their lives. An ESL teacher can share the gospel while meeting a pressing societal need and forming deep, lasting connections with people who may otherwise have little exposure to the gospel.
A specific identified need is to the first responder community. First responders must be able to relate to their victims from around the world and many have missed key training opportunities due to their lack of English. A teacher is needed to teach English to firefighters, police officers, paramedics, health professional, and others eager to improve their language skills. Teaching may take place in fire stations, police stations, ministry centers, schools, churches, and community centers through structured courses, conversation clubs, and informal gatherings.
The Impact:
ESL ministry is a powerful tool for outreach in Ecuador. Churches, schools, and first responders welcome English language programs, providing a natural way to engage with students who might not otherwise hear the gospel message. Through language classes and conversation clubs, ESL teachers can establish trust, develop friendships, and introduce students to Jesus Christ.
The impact goes beyond the classroom. As teachers invest in the lives of their students, they have countless opportunities to demonstrate the love of Christ and share the hope of the gospel. Many Ecuadorians are searching for meaning, and an ESL teacher who genuinely cares can point them toward the ultimate truth found in Jesus. This ministry aligns directly with the Great Commission, equipping believers to make disciples through the everyday interactions of teaching, mentoring, and relationship-building.
