We are grieved to learn of the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, a young man whose life and witness touched countless people in our nation and beyond.
I am grateful for the clarity and courage with which Charlie proclaimed the gospel. Unashamed of the cross, he spoke of sin, repentance, and Christ’s saving work with conviction, reminding us that the gospel is both the power of God for salvation and the foundation for truth in every sphere of life. His boldness, in an age when many shrink back from speaking the truth in love, is a reminder of the cost and the calling of discipleship.
We unreservedly condemn this evil act of violence. It is not only an assault upon one man and his family but also upon the freedom to speak truthfully about Christ and his lordship. Scripture teaches us that “all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted” (2 Timothy 3:12). We see in this moment that persecution takes many forms, including the most grievous.
This tragedy also reminds us of the deeper need in our nation—not simply for political solutions or cultural reform, but for true revival that comes only through the proclamation of the gospel and the application of God’s Word to every aspect of life. Our hope for lasting change lies not in human strength, but in Christ reigning in the hearts of people and transforming families, communities, and nations.
Our prayers are with Charlie’s wife, family, friends, and all who mourn his loss. May the God of all comfort be near to them. And may his church take courage from Charlie’s example, never ashamed of the gospel, but ready to proclaim Christ until he comes.
