In a recent appearance on Morning Light, a daily news and talk program hosted on Lighthouse TV, ABWE missionary Caleb Gibbs shared a moving update from the ground in Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa.
Speaking live from Montego Bay, Caleb described the devastation across the island—including the destruction of the school where his wife, Charity, teaches and where their children attend, as well as the damage to multiple churches he’s served alongside. Yet amid the wreckage, he emphasized the resilience and hope of the Jamaican believers who are already stepping up to serve their neighbors.
“Even in the moments of destruction, we are able to collect these pieces of hope . . . the pieces that will be needed to build and move forward,” Gibbs said.
He went on to recount how one pastor from Kingston filled a van with supplies and drove cross-island to deliver aid to Montego Bay, partnering with the local church there. “While relief from overseas will take time,” Gibbs noted, “it’s encouraging to see local churches already stepping up.”
ABWE’s missionaries and national partners are continuing to assess the damage and provide relief across the island. Many church buildings have lost their roofs, and families are without homes, clean water, and electricity. Despite the hardship, the gospel witness remains strong.
“After the rain came a rainbow,” Gibbs said, reflecting on God’s promise of hope after the storm.
