Prayer Focus: No Place for Shame

Living out the gospel unashamedly is crucial part of the Great Commission.

“For  I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is  the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew  first and also to  the Greek.” (Romans 1:16 ESV)

Shame. Gospel. Power. Salvation. Belief. Which word does not belong?

The gospel is God’s power that brings salvation to everyone who believes. This is one of the key verses in Paul’s book to the Romans.

But more than that, the gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ. Paul explained it to the Corinthians like this. Christ died  for our sins  in accordance with the scriptures. He was buried, and then he was raised  on the third day  in accordance with the scriptures (1 Cor. 15).

Your belief in the gospel unleashes God’s power which brings salvation. Salvation is available to all peoples. But belief is dependent upon hearing. There are still large portions of the world’s population who have never heard the gospel or of its power to save them.

So, where does shame fit in? It doesn’t. That’s the point. Paul was not ashamed of the gospel because of what it is and what it can do. Let’s live like Paul.

This week, let’s pray:

Lord, strengthen believers who live in countries hostile to the name of Christ. Let them live unashamedly in the power of the gospel. And Lord, help me to live the same way.
